Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Youth and Adults
Goal: develop skills for self-nurturing empowerment, pro-social interaction, conflict resolution and financial independence.
Each course begins with a one-day intensive success seminar to create bonding. The weekly sessions of 120 minutes each begin the next session and continue for 8 weeks. The topics are Powerful Communication and Conflict Management and How to Make Money and Make Money Work for You. These interactive sessions offer an experiential approach to help the individuals let go of negative behavior and develop new skills to produce a different result. Participants graduate with a certificate and those demonstrating outstanding results are eligible for a letter of recommendation for employment.
At the start of the course participants complete a needs assessment to help us connect them with service providers for mentoring, substance abuse treatment, housing and employment readiness. At the completion of the course a follow up assessment is administered to measure changes in attitude and knowledge
Since the spring of 2001, Power/Excel has served over 300 inmates in the Baltimore Pre-release Unit for Women.
